How Many Wedding Dresses Should You Try Before Choosing One

How Many Wedding Dresses Should You Try Before Choosing One

Is there a magic number of wedding dresses you should try before making your decision?

No.

Some brides find their dress after trying only a few. Others need more time to understand what they like. The important thing isn’t how many dresses you try — it’s whether each dress is helping you get closer to understanding what feels right.

More isn’t always better

It can be tempting to think that the more wedding dresses you try, the more certain you’ll eventually become.

Often, the opposite happens.

After trying too many gowns, silhouettes and styles, dresses can begin to blend into one another. You start comparing tiny details — the neckline from one, the fabric from another, the back of a third — and a process that began with excitement can become confusing.

Wedding dress shopping doesn’t need to be a marathon.

Your first dresses are often about discovery

If you don’t know exactly what you want, your first few dresses can be incredibly useful.

Try different silhouettes. Try something fitted and something flowy. Compare clean fabrics with lace or more detailed designs.

You may quickly discover that a style you loved in photographs doesn’t feel like you — while something you hadn’t considered looks completely different once you put it on.

Every dress doesn’t need to be a contender. Some simply help you understand your preferences.

Don’t keep searching just because you think you should

One of the easiest traps to fall into is thinking:

“I love this dress, but surely I need to try more before deciding.”

You don’t need to try 20 dresses simply to prove that the one you love is the right choice.

If a gown feels right, suits your wedding, makes you feel comfortable and reflects your personal style, trying another ten dresses may not give you more certainty. It may simply give you more options to compare.

Pay attention to how you feel

Of course, look at the silhouette, fabric, neckline and details.

But also notice your reaction.

Do you feel comfortable?

Do you keep looking at yourself in the mirror?

Can you imagine walking into your wedding wearing it?

Do you feel like yourself?

Sometimes those answers tell you much more than another round of dresses.

The Brideswings Tip

There is no correct number of wedding dresses to try.

Try enough to understand what you love — but not so many that you stop trusting your own reaction.

At Brideswings in Kifissia, Athens, our private appointments allow us to select gowns according to each bride’s style and gradually refine the choices together.

The goal isn’t to try the most dresses.

It’s to recognize when you’ve found one you don’t want to take off.
